mdc_logoSenior police officers at Southerton Police Station in Harare have barred the MDC from holding a consultative meeting at Cyril Jennings Hall claiming that they had not been notified on time.

President Tsvangirai and senior MDC officials were expected to attend the consultative meetings, which was launched at Mabvuku Hall in Mabvuku, Harare yesterday.

According to the Harare provincial chairperson, Senator Morgan Femai, the police were notified by the MDC Harare provincial secretary, Tsaurai Marima of their intention to hold the meeting but the police turned down the application on pathetic grounds claiming they had not been informed in advance. Meanwhile, President Morgan Tsvangirai on Tuesday evening reiterated that Robert Mugabe had no authority in making unilateral senior government appointments without consulting him as stated in the Global Political Agreement (GPA).

He was addressing hundreds of Mabvuku residents at Mabvuku Hall at the launch of the MDC national consultative meeting. President Tsvangirai said that Mugabes actions were not only unlawful but unconstitutional. The nationwide programme is designed to explain to the people the Global Political Agreement (GPA) violations and the Constitutional crisis that has been created by Zanu PF and Mugabe as they continuously disregard the GPA. President Tsvangirai said Mugabe must recognize that the inclusive government was a shared compromise and that the GPA is now part of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.

President Tsvangirai today met with the leadership of the Zimbabwe National Students Union (Zinasu) at the Partys headquarters, Harvest House where he was briefed on the growing concerns of the students. The meeting came as ten Zinasu students leaders who were arrested on Monday appeared in court in Masvingo for organising a class boycott due to exorbitant college fees. Zinasu President, Obert Masaraure said the students body was satisfied with the outcome of the meeting as President Tsvangirai had appreciated and pledged to take action on a number of issues that had been placed on the table by the students.

The MDC Youth Assembly has sent a congratulatory message to Munyaradzi Chidzonga, the Diamond Boy for representing Zimbabwe and Africa especially the youths during the DSTV run and sponsored Big Brother show which ended in South Africa on Sunday.
