2010s Twenty20 begins

HARARE - The countrys capital will be set ablaze this Saturday by a potentially thrilling showdown of the 2010 Stanbic Bank Twenty20 cricket tournament that will see Zimbabwes five franchise teams competing for honours in the fans favourite version of the game.

Defending champions Mountaineers will be hoping to prove their victory last year was no fluke as they face a determined Mashonaland Eagles, Midwest Rhinos, Matabeleland Tuskers and Southern Rocks in the race to the championship title.

Rocks will be a potential crowd puller after recently signing former West Indies batsman Brian Lara and former England fast bowler Ryan Sidebottom for the showpiece.

Sidebottom, 32, played 22 Tests, 25 ODIs and 18 Twenty20s for England, including the recent World Twenty20 triumph in the Caribbean, in an international career that spanned nine years before his international retirement in September.

But Lara, who has for many years regarded alongside Sachin Tendulkar as one of the best batsmen of his era, has not yet featured in T20 format of the game, which was introduced internationally after his retirement in 2007.

Fixture: Saturday Mid West Rhinos v Southern Rocks, Matabeleland Tuskers v Mashonaland Eagles. Sunday- Southern Rocks v Mash Eagles, Mountaneers v Midwest Rhinos.
