Government not entertaining new projects

VUMBA The government is not entertaining any new projects until the old ones which were not completed by the former Zanu (PF) administration have been completed, a cabinet minister has said.

Public Works minister Joe Gabbuza said his ministry required US$ 46 million to complete a total of 126 government projects that were abandoned by the former government.

Addressing senior Public workshop officials at a two day workshop, Gabbuza said: “We have over 126 projects that have not been completed in the past years and we said to ourselves no, no we are not going to entertain new projects before we finish those that are lying idle for years”.

Gabbuza since the Inclusive government had managed to revive some abandoned projects. Projects with social impact such as clinics and hospitals were getting top priority.

“We have strategised to streamline them in relation to economic challenges that we are facing,” he said.

He also revealed that his ministry will seek US$ 19 million to rehabilitate government buildings next year.

The workshop was aimed at realigning the Ministry’s targeted goals for 2011, as well as evaluating the success and challenges faced in the year 2010.

Some projects were lying idle because of mismanagement of funds.
