Lovemore Moyo visited families affected by a hailstorm

lovemore_moyo_speakerThe MDC national chairperson and Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Lovemore Moyo (Pictured) this week visited the 42 families who were affected by a hailstorm in Mbembeswane, Matobo North, Matebeleland South province and donated food hampers worth thousands of dollars.

Hon. Moyo , the MP for the area, who was accompanied by the MDC Matetebeland South provincial executive paid his condolences to the family of Slindokuhle Tshabangu and later visited Mbembeswane Clinic which was affected by the hailstorm. Tshabangu, a 13 year old girl died after the house she was sleeping in fell after the devastating hailstorm, which occurred earlier this month. He pledged to assist the families with building materials in rebuilding their homes.

Meanwhile, the MDC has said it is fully behind the Harare City Council in defying Zanu PF and the Minister of Local Government, Rural and Urban Development Minister, Ignatius Chombo to fork out more than US$100 000 to Chombos nine member committee, chaired by Harare lawyer, Andrew Makoni. The MDC said Chombo, a Zanu PF politburo member was determined to fleece Harares residents of their hard-earned income and to sabotage service delivery through unending investigations and blatant interference into the affairs of the city.

The MDC said it was concerned that after Chombo probed the council for what he called irregular evictions of residents from council houses and suspended the councillors he suspected of wrong doing, he launched yet another committee to pursue the same issue at an astronomical cost to the council. In both cases, Chombo simply fixes the charges for the investigations, without any justification or consultation with either the council or Mayor Muchadeyi Masunda, sparking unnecessary confrontation to the detriment of the citys residents and rate-payers.

The MDC said it fully supported Mayor Masunda and that the Mayor is right to protect the people by querying the rationale of setting up two separate teams to conduct essentially the same probe, in particular over Chombos apparent failure to explain the manner in which he decided on the teams collective fee.

Together, united, winning, ready for real change!
