Research TB – Madzorera

henry_madzoreraHARARE The Health and Child Welfare minister Henry Madzorera (Pictured) has urged health research institutes to research new technologies to diagnose and treat all the forms of TB in order to limit the devastating effects of the epidemic.

Speaking at the University of Zimbabwe and University of California – San Francisco (UZ-UCSF) annual research conference held in Harare last week Madzorera urged the health research institutes to invest in the latest development technology for diagnosing and treating tuberculosis (TB).

We need to catch up with technological developments as the equipments that is being used by the country to treat TB is obsolete. As a ministry we are very committed in developing the latest state of art technologies, said Madzorera.

He added that the ministry would provide the necessary support to scientists and clinicians to enhance the research.

We will be able to give the assistance so that we enhance research and development that fosters evidence-based decision making particularly in dealing with the challenges of HIN1, TB and other infectious conditions, he said.

Madzorera added that there was great need to improve Zimbabwes contribution to the treatment of diseases particularly in the areas relevant to the countrys population.

The government is concerned with increased number of cases of deaths from TB as well as the development of drug resistant strains of the infection, he said.
