More interesting, however, is that one or all of the three supposedly experienced career diplomats preferred to sell the story to The Herald instead of informing the relevant authorities of the incident.
Staff at the embassy involved in selling the seemingly lies should face the consequences of such undiplomatic behaviour and they should stop being used by Zanu (PF).
It looks like the Zanu PF machinery, knowing fully well that it has lost the confidence of the people and will lose the next elections, whenever they are held, has crafted a smear campaign against officials belonging to the Movement for Democratic Change, in order to divert people’s attention from corrupt activities carried out by its own officials.
Now that Zwambila has been called to explain her side of the story, she should use the opportunity to brief President Mugabe about the diamonds being siphoned out of the country to Asia, if a media report to that effect published in one of the Internet newspapers is anything to go by. It is my hope that The Herald will invest some resources into investigating reports of diamond scandals taking place.
