This first show of the Ambassadors New Generation series highlighting Zimbabwean and American performers, was held as part of the worldwide Daniel Pearl Music Days http://www.danielpearlmusicdays.org/ and featured Zimbabwean singer-songwriter Ryan Koriya. www.ryankoriya.com
Daniel Pearl was an acclaimed investigative journalist covering India and Pakistan for the Wall Street Journal in 2002 when he was killed by violent extremists in Karachi. A dedicated musician himself, his family created the Daniel Pearl Music Days to overcome violence and to bring people together through music. His story and the story of his wifes search for the truth were told in the highly acclaimed film A Mighty Heart starring Angelina Jolie.
Koriya is a Zimbabwean born and raised singer who spent the last seven years in the United Kingdom playing lead guitar with the rock band Mann Friday and performing in some of Londons hottest nightspots. He has produced one solo CD, The Demonstration EP, and is now based in the country working on his next album with ambitions to move to Los Angeles.
Introducing the series of concerts, Ambassador Charles Ray said, Daniel Pearl World Music days remind us whether we are in Karachi, Pakistan, or Harare, Zimbabwe, that all of us, no matter how different our religions or backgrounds, can come together and share a common humanity, said the U.S. Ambassador.
Quoting President Barack Obama, Ambassador Ray noted, All of us share this world for but a brief moment in time. The question is whether we spend that time focused on what pushes us apart, or whether we commit ourselves to an effort- a sustained effort- to find common ground, to focus on the future we seek for our children, and to respect the dignity of all human beings.
Ryan Koriya will be performing in the Upstairs Theatre at Reps Theatre, 2nd Street Extension Shopping Centre, Maasdorp Ave and Sam Nujoma St, Harare, Zimbabwe, November 14-20. More information available on Koriyas web page at
