At least two Zimbabwean dance ensembles, singers and drama groups have been listed as participants for the All Africa Dance Conference and Festival on Peace, to be held from December 3-5, 2010, at the KICC. The festival is an annual cultural extravaganza on the theme of peace, which is organised by Purple Images Productions. Its main thrust is to bring people together to celebrate the wealth and diversity of African dance.

Organisers late last week said that the 2010 edition of the annual festival, whose theme this year is Celebrating the Role of Cultural Dance in Peace Building and Human Understanding, will provide a rich, inclusive and challenging forum for the reflective arts practitioners.

It will give them a chance to celebrate their creative richness, critically and deeply engage, dream and act jointly in producing alternative cultural and dance products and in shaping new narratives of just peace, Skin Sipoko, a spokesperson for the events organisers, told The Zimbabwean. Among the Zimbabwean artists that will be performing are Umkhathi Theatre, Ancestral Horizons, Rooftop Promotions and some music teachers and choreographers.

This year’s event will showcase a rich and vibrant mix of dance and musical performances by more than 100 dance groups and 500 established artists from all over the world. The All Africa Dance Festival will establish itself as Africas leading music and dance festival. It’s the event to unite people while celebrating Africa, said Sipoko.
