Macheso latest release a National Anthem

macheso_alickHARARE - The latest album released by Sungura King, Alic Macheso (Pictured) and the Orchestra Mberikwazvo Band, Zvinoda Kushinga, was overwhelmingly received by his fans who described it as a national anthem.

The six-track album released in time for the festive season is arguably one of the best from the Chitungwiza-based musical outfit. Public gathering places, commuter omnibuses, private cars, households and both National Television and Radio Stations are playing the hit album like its nobodys business.

Macheso has successfully wooed back lost fans due to bad publicity about his marital affairs. His female fans were not impressed by reports that their Sungura Music Icon was dating another woman out of marriage, said Sekai Mhuriro, a Macheso fan in Mbare.

Cross-border truck drivers also confirmed the new album was causing waves in regional countries such as South Africa, Zambia, Botswana and the DRC among others.

Machesos album readily found a market in DRC towns such as Lubumbashi, Kinshasa, Mbujumai and Kananga among others, because of a music track titled Kudzima Moto nePeturo (Extinguishing fire with petrol). The track composed in shona was laced with some Kiswahili translations. Kiswahili is one of the dominant languages in DRC, said Joseph Moyo, a cross border truck driver who regularly makes deliveries to DRC.
