Ncube, who works in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni, was crowned at a glittering ceremony held at a Johannesburg hotel, beating 10 other beauties who had vied for the crown. Pretoria-based beauty therapist, Duduzile Phakathi was crowned first Princess, while crowd favourite, Shyleen Ntokozo Sibanda was voted second Princess, in an event that was graced by Miss Zimbabwe 2009, Vanessa Sibanda.
The Guest of Honour, Joyce Dube, who is also the Director of humanitarian group the Southern African Womens Institute for Migration, called on Zimbabwean girls to emulate the contestants and find activities that would make them true role models for Zimbabwe. We are tired of Zimbabwean girls being referred to as the cheapest ladies of the night here in South Africa, said Dube.
Zimbabwean women and girls are dying everyday in this country and that is very painful to mothers like me. I would therefore, appeal to Zimbabwean girls here in South Africa to find suitable jobs or self-help activities to do than rush for an easy life that will have them carried home to die, or be taken there in a coffin. I would like to see true brand ambassadors for our country coming from our young daughters here.
Pageant Director Thamsanqa Ncube, told The Zimbabwean that the event would be held annually. We are very happy with how the pageant came out this year and I would like to thank all Zimbabweans who supported this event, said Ncube.
Preparations for the 2011 edition have already started and we would like to make it even bigger than this years because we have seen where we need to improve. This is an event for the Zimbabweans and we would love to see it grow in leaps and bounds.
