Mushangazhike organised the inaugural tournament last November aiming to give former players a chance to come out of the oblivion and let their stars shine to inspire young and talented future national team players. The Mbare Netball Complex will be graced by eight teams that will lock horns to take football fans back in time on the Unity Day holiday. The showpiece that is meant for former players above the age of 35-years will feature Dynamos Legends, CAPS Legends, Black Rhinos, Chitungwiza, Highfield and three teams from Mbare.

The show will give a chance for some of the premier soccer league coaches such as Caps United mentor Moses Bambo Chunga, Dynamos Elvis Chuchu Chiweshe and Lloyd Mutasa to practise what they teach. Among the countrys respected former players will be Tauya Murehwa, Calisto Pasuwa, Anthony Kambani, Lloyd Chitembwe, Alois Bunjira, Nesbert Saruchera, Stix Mtizwa, Gift Umbro Muzadzi, Jimmy Mbewe, Kennedy Nagoli, Masimba Dinyero and Paul Nyama.

Mushangazhike believes it has been the beautiful game of football that has given him friends just as with most players and the tournament serves to him and others as a reunion party.

“We have met and known each other through football, so the game is our unifying factor and we will use this to revive our friendship. We cant have former players only meeting at funerals of a fellow legend. The Unity Day will be a perfect day to host this tournament as we bring together the former players, he said. “We dont intend to make the tournament a once in a lifetime thing, we want it to be a permanent feature on the calendar. These people contributed to the countrys football and they just deserve to be recognised.
