Student Activists further remanded.

The case of five ZINASU student activists has been further remanded to the 10th of December. The student activists appeared before a Harare magistrate Maburo facing charges of participating in an unlawful gathering with the intention of causing public violence after addressing students as part of the Day of the African Child commemorations

. After spending the whole day at the Harare Magistrates court yesterday 06 December 2010 the students had to endure another grueling day at the courts. The Student Solidarity Trust is concerned about the lengthily durations that the students have to face just to be remanded to a further date. For justice to be attained the state has to ensure that the students are being treated fairly and that the courts are being fair to those seeking justice and three court appearances in one week does not serve both parties favorably not only does it waste tax payer money but also compromises the liberty of those expecting justice from the courts.

The students lawyer Jeremiah Bamu today applied for the case to be referred to the Supreme Court, on the basis that fundamental human rights enshrined in the constitution have been violated. The students were assaulted and held at Matapi police station where cells have been deemed unsuitable for human habitation other things. The Student Solidarity Trust continues to lobby for the respect of fundamental human rights.

Meanwhile a Bulawayo student activist Patrick Danga yesterday appeared before a Bulawayo magistrate facing charges under the Criminal Law and (Codification and Reform Act) Chapter 9:23 for defeating the course of justice, his case was remanded to the 30th of December.
