Tuku to stage debut Christmas Eve show in Dubai

tuku_oneHARARE - Oliver Mtukudzi's tag as the African giant of music has been cemented by a call to perform for the first time in the Middle East in Dubai on Friday 24 December. (Pictured: Tuku to entertain Dubai fans on Christmas Eve)

His local fans, according to publicist, Shepherd Mutamba should not despair: “Despite performing in Dubai, Samanyanga (Mtukudzi) will return just in time for Xmas to do a couple of shows in Harare, Gweru and Chinhoyi and spends Xmas actually on the road for a date with the fans he loves in South Africa.”

His last performance for December, on New Year’s Eve is actually in Johannesburg (Blues Room) after doing Bloemfontein, East London and Durban. Annually Tuku spends time, towards the end of December, with his friends at Humana People to People in Shamva for a good solo jam. Its traditional – he loves it there and never misses Shamva every December, said Mutamba.

December also sees Tuku with friends at the Harare Shut Down show featuring Alick Macheso, Tongai Moyo and Suluman Chimbetu. Then there is the annual but entirely re-branded and even much more exciting Pakare Paye Spar Solo Festival also in December at Pakare Paye Arts Centre in Norton near Harare. We are soon unveiling the performing artists and the generous supporting partners. The music superstars show will be held at the City Sports Centre.

The event, is expected to be an all night event starting at 6pm until 6am. It will result in a CD and DVD being launched. The joint bash by the popular musicians will be the first of its kind. “This is the biggest bash of the year and we hope people come especially since it will mark the end of the year,” a spokesman told Radio VOP in an interview. “It will cost US$10 and will be a pungwe (all night). All the artists that have been invited have agreed to attend, making this the biggest musical event in Zimbabwe this year.”
