Campbell targets New Zealand

alistairHarare - Zimbabwe s chairman of selectors, Alistair Campbell (Pictured), believes a good performance against New Zealand would enhance the teams chances of progressing to the second round of International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup.

Campbell, whose team is also drawn to play against world champions Australia , fancied his teams chances against a New Zealand side which he described as beatable.

I think we have a good draw for the ICC Cricket World Cup and we would look to perhaps target New Zealand as they are pretty unpredictable as can be Pakistan. So, if we play to our ability there is every chance things could go our way to get into the next round, the former Zimbabwe player said last Thursday, a day after Zimbabwe Cricket selectors revealed the names of the 15 players that would represent the country in the tournament scheduled for February in the subcontinent.

Among those selected was Sean Ervine, who has not played international cricket for more than six years. Campbell said on the decision to recall the allrounder, We are very happy that Sean Ervine has come back into the Zimbabwe fold as he strengthens our middle-order and our batting line up.

Besides Australia and New Zealand , Zimbabwe are pooled alongside Sri Lanka and Canada . Australia and New Zealand are favourites to progress to the second round while Sri Lanka are the dark horses. Zimbabwe and Canada are underdogs. India , Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will host the Cricket World Cup, the ICCs flagship tournament, in February.
