Chataika hits immortalized

chataikaHARARE - The much-acclaimed work of the late gospel crooner Jordan Chataika has been saved for posterity with the cutting of a CD album of his most popular hits by his son. (Pictured: The late gospel crooner Jordan Chataika)

Ronnie Jordan Chataika Jnr told The Zimbabwean that the CD, entitled ‘Nguva Yakanaka’, was recorded at Metro Studios in Harare and has now gone on countrywide sale. It features the late Chataika’s voice as well as original acoustic instruments, with Oliver Mtukudzi on guitar, the late Robert Mtukudzi on keyboards and Chataika himself on vocals. Chataika’s sisters provide melodious backing vocals.

However, Chataika Jnr’s sensitive addition of percussion gives the music a more modern beat, which should make it appeal to the younger generation, which did not have the opportunity to see the great Chataika live on stage. Chataika Jnr has been touring with his aunts to promote the album. He says he is planning another album featuring Chataika’s greatest hits. Chataika Jnr has also proved his mettle as an artist in his own right after performing recently alongside the comedian and singer Kireni Zulu.
