The citys town clerk, Adolf Gusha, said phase 1B of the water augmentation programme was on hold because there were insufficient funds in the council coffers to fund the project.
As a result some suburbs such as Rujeko B and Mucheke F were not getting water regularly.
Despite the recent payment by government of part of its bill, Gusha said the debt was affecting efficient service delivery. We appeal to government and residents to pay, as we do not want to embark on an exercise of disconnecting our services.
We have not yet reached a decision to disconnect defaulters though, but if they insist on not paying we will be left with no option, said Gusha.
He said tenders had already been issued for the commencement of the augmentation programme that is expected to boost the citys water supplies.
