Josphat fails to live up to expectations

josphat_somanjeMARONDERA - Marondera based musician Josphat Somanje (Pictured) has been eating sour grapes following the release of his new album Tendai Mwari (thank God), which has failed to escalate the momentum his previous award winning album has build.

The Somanje Stars frontman who is arguably recognized as one of the countrys sungura heavyweights have failed to live up to his previously set standards. The six track album released last year, which is receiving no airplay at all, has been described by music analysts as a flop sailing at the bottom of the sungura league.

Tendai Mwari is trailing far behind Alick Extra Basso Machesos Zvinoda Kutendwa (thanks giving), Tongai Dehwa Moyos Toita Basa (doing the job) and Non-Stop from Sulumani Chimbetu. Luckson Murimi, a big fan of Somanje Stars said, We were expecting another scorching album from Josphat but his new offering (Tendai Mwari) is a big disappointment. It might be that he has since lost his touch.

Josphats previous album, This Time, raised the profile of the Somanje Stars ensemble after it won several accolades. The album topped the 2009 Radio Zimbabwe Song of the Year and ZTV Video of the Year charts and saw the Somanje Stars frontman walking away with two National Arts and Merit Awards (NAMA) in March last year.
