Nine MDC members were arrested on Sunday after marauding Zanu PF youths, driving Harare South MP Hubert Nyanhongo's two vehicles, on Sunday disrupted a handover ceremony of school building materials at Kazozo Primary School in Nyanga.
The building materials had been sourced by Nyanga North MP Hon. Douglas Mwonzora through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF). When Hon. Mwonzora called the police to quell the disturbances, police from Nyamaropa Police Station arrested nine MDC members while four were abducted and taken to Nyanhongo’s homestead in Nyadowadowa.
The abducted four were later released but the nine members are still in police custody at Nyanga Police Station and are expected to appear in court on Wednesday facing trumped – up violence charges. The handover ceremony of the building materials had to be abandoned.
Meanwhile, six MPs from the MDC have been summoned to appear in court in Masvingo to answer to fake charges of disrupting a meeting that was being addressed by a self – styled war veterans’ leader, Jabulani Sibanda Bikita last year.
MPs Tongai Matutu (Masvingo Urban), Heya Shoko (Bikita West), Edmore Marima (Bikita East), Jani Varandani (Bikita South), Enerst Mudavanhu ((Zaka North) and Zaka Senator Misheck Marava were on Monday ordered to appear in court on March 28 for trial.
