The suspensions mean that Chikowore and Charles Matorera have temporarily ceased to be Chairmen of MDC in their respective Districts. They are also barred from representing MDC in any capacity and should immediately stop contacting their colleagues until the finalization of their cases.
Chikowore, a Durban based business man, with interest in the security industry flew all nine MDC District Chairmen to Free State last month where he announced his intention to be the Provincial Chairman and to unconstitutionally dissolve the current elected Provincial executive. The Security.Com, boss Chikowore allegedly committed a cardinal sin by splashing money a practice which is frowned at MDC.
Other Chairmen who travelled to Free State under the impression that the meeting was convened by the legitimate provincial leadership turned around and laid complaints against the opulent Chikowore for using money to push his ambitions at the expense of unity in the Party. The District chairmen were further stunned when Chikowore also attacked the national leadership who he accused of having permanently occupied positions since the Party was formed.
The PEC met last night and resolved to suspend Chikowore and the Free State Chairman Charles Matorera, who hosted the meeting. We are appealing to the Party members to desist from the mudslinging which is associated with elective congresses. Anyone is at liberty to contest any position, but flagrant disregard of Party culture, rules, norms and values will not be tolerated. MDC has a code of conduct which every Party member is compelled to abide by and we will not hesitate to take disciplinary measures against anyone who crosses the Party line. MDC is a party for the poor masses of Zimbabwe and the heart and soul of MDC will never be offered to the highest bidder.
An ad hoc Disciplinary Committee was set to look at Chikowore and Matoreras case. The duo will receive a fair hearing and are at liberty to bringing their legal representatives or can be represented by any party member of their choice who is of good standing.
