UK Dendera music fans in for a treat

HARARE Dendera music fans in the United Kingdom are set to savour their favourite genre when Sulumani Chimbetu lands in the country for three shows in April.

Sulumani is expected to perform in Pretoria South Africa this weekend in preparation for the UK tour. Sulu, as he is fondly known by his legion of fans, is expected to perform at Starlite Club in Leicester on April 22. The following day the NAMA 2010 Outstanding Musician Award winner is scheduled to entertain fans at Danstable Leisure Centre in Luton before rounding up his tour in London on April 24.

The show is organised by former Khima Boys and Orchestra Dendera Kings drummer Sailas Chakanyuka now based in the UK and Bonnie Jena a music promoter also based there. Dendera music fans in UK have been famished of their favourite genre, as the group last performed in that country three years ago when Allan Chimbetu was still leading the group.

Now led by Sulu the son of the late Simon Chimbetu a Dendera music legend, the backing group The Orchestra Dendera Kings that still has the original members that used to play with Simon is expected to woo the fans with old and latest songs.

In an interview with Sunday Showbiz, a highly elated Sulu said: My dad used to travel to UK every year. I am excited that my tour there will revive the live show romance with all the Dendera music fans who are there.

Sulu who is currently riding with his latest offering Non Stop added that the Dendera fans should brace for fireworks. We are making final details about the long journey to UK and this would be a great opportunity to reach out to our fans. They have been making a lot of inquiries and we have finally decided to give them the opportunity to watch us in action, said the talented musician who also plays the rhythm guitar with perfection.

Fans are expected to enjoy old hit songs done by Simon Chimbetu that have proved to be popular with fans. Such songs include One Way, Samatenga, Magobo, Marirangwe, Dzandipedza Mafuta, Window, Comma and Suduruka among others.

Sulu has so far released two albums on his won that include Ndomusiya Nani and Non Stop that features Alaln Chimbetu on rhythm guitar.
