winky_d_on_stageHARARE Award-winning dancehall artist Winky D (Pictured) announced during the recently held 2011 National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA) that he would be using a new stage name -Messi WemaRasta.

As is the trend with all his stage names, Messi WemaRasta is an expression of Winky Ds lyrical prowess in dancehall circles, which he likens to the brilliance of Barcelona FCs skilful forward, Lionel Messi, on the football pitch.

The Kambuzuma-based dancehall superstar started making noise two years ago with his widely acclaimed stage name, The Bigman (stylized as Di Bigiman) – a name he was awarded due to his astonishing lyrical prowess behind the microphone.

Born Wallace Chirumiko, Messi WemaRasta inherited his first stage name, Winky D – short for Wicked Deejay, through his nimbleness in scratching vinlys.
