He said this while addressing journalists at the Quill Club in Harare on Wednesday during a public hearing hosted by the Voluntary Media Council of Zimbabwe on the character of the political environment in Zimbabwe with special attention to violence, elections, and the Global Political Agreement (GPA).
Hon. Chamisa said there has been a serious development of an explosive situation in the country with Zanu PF actively and directly mobilising and sponsoring destabilisation and violence. He said, Zanu PF has used the margin of terror and violence, to remind the people of what happened in June 2008. He however said, despite the attacks, the MDC remains committed to leading the people into a new Zimbabwe where all people are respected and protected.
In Midlands North, Zhombe MP Hon. Rodgers Tazvionas case was deferred to February 28 for bail ruling after the State denied bail him for the second time, by invoking the repressive Section 121 of the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act, after stating they needed more time to carry out further investigations. Hon. Tazviona and four other MDC activists are at Kwekwe remand prison on allegations that they threatened Chief Samambwa with unspecified action, if he failed to return MDC regalia he confiscated from MDC supporters in Zhombe.
In Mashonaland East, Zanu PF supporters, allegedly sponsored and fed by Mudzi North MP, Newton Kachepa, have been on a look out for known MDC activists who have since gone into hiding. Speaking from Mudzi North ward 17, one of the activists said they fled their homes last night after the rowdy Zanu PF youth visited their homes wielding knobkerries, sticks and stones. They made a report at Nyamapanda police station, which referred them to Kotwa police station some 30km away.
