Speaking at the launch of what hasbeen billed as the anti-sanctions campaign in Harare, Mugabe who recently turned 87, said the time has come for his government to retaliate against the west. He has assigned his minister of Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Savious Kasukuwire to form a committee that would bust the so-called sanctions.
Mugabe was speaking today at the launch that was boycotted by Prime Morgan Tsvangirai and Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara, of the so-called anti-sanctions campaign.
The two MDC formations have said that they will not participate in the anti-sanctions signing charade saying that the posturing is nothing but a Zanu PF project which does not have the blessings of the hybrid government.
We are going to look at the 400 British companies. It is time that we take steps to take what is ours, indigenisation should start with the British companies and we are not ashamed to do that because they imposed sanctions against us, said Mugabe.
Mugabe who was speaking to thousands of bussed Zimbabweans some forced from their daily works said that sanctions are a war on the people of Zimbabwe and should therefore be removed.
Buoyed by the words of the octogenarian leader the Affirmative Action Group (AAG), has came up with a hit list of companies that should swiftly be grabbed under the controversial indigenisation drive.
The five companies that have been targeted by AGG are Old Mutual, BHP, Rio Tinto, Standard Bank and Barclays Bank.
Mugabe accused the Standard Bank and Barclays Banks of siphoning money from the country to Europe.
