Businessman builds shops

shoppingCHITUNGWIZA - A Chitungwiza businessman Fredrick Mabamba says that it is time to give the countrys local entrepreneurs a place to do business.

He has so far built 64 small shops where people are expected to carry out their business within the confines of the law.

The inspiration for building the shops came from Murambatsvina. I discovered that people who had shops that were destroyed have nowhere to conduct their business and I therefore decided to build the shops, said Mabamba.

In 2005 the government of Zimbabwe demolished homes and buildings that were considered illegal in an operation code named Murambatsvina. To date nothing has been done to give displaced people an alternative.

Motivated by his humble beginnings as a teacher, Mabamba believes that every person in the country has an equal chance of making it provided that there is platform.

We cannot all be employed and the idea of building these shops is to offer people a launch pad that they can demonstrate their business acumen, said Mabamba.

Apart from building the shops Mabamba has also built schools in the sprawling suburb and intends to build a maternity hospital.

Chitungwiza is home to close to a million people, most of whom who work in Harare. There are few employment opportunities and many residents look up to the city fathers to create employment opportunities.
