COMPUTER THIEVES ARRESTED

Maputo The Mozambican police on Monday announced the arrest last week of a gang of thieves who specialised in stealing computers from homes and offices in Maputo.

The spokesperson for the Maputo City Police Command, Orlando Mudumane, told reporters that the gang was caught red-handed after stealing seven computers from a Maputo company. The three suspects, named as V. Mucavel, A. Marcelino and M. Cossa, were surprised at about 10.00 last Monday in the outlying Maputo suburb of Luis Cabral in possession of the stolen computers.

Madumane said that the police are also hunting for a gang who held a woman motorist up at knife point last Thursday night in the Ferroviario das Mahotas neighbourhood of the capital, and stole her Toyota Corolla. Police operations in the capital over the past week, said Madumane, led to the arrest of 62 individuals, accused of crimes ranging from petty theft to murder.
