I have a sungura track on my upcoming album. The song features a well known sungura musician. I strongly felt the need to record a sungura track and to be part of the most dominant music genre in the country, said the hit maker.
However, unlike urban grooves, which is digitalized, sungura is a more challenging genre which requires a live band and backing vocalists. Several urban grooves such as Plaxedes Wenyika and Tendai MC Villa Marukutira attempted to take that route, and it marked the death of their promising music careers.
Though Wenyika only produced a few sungura songs, MC Villa switched his entire music genre from urban grooves to sungura. MC Villas sudden change of heart came when he was arrested for pirating Alick Machesos music in March 2008 and decided to beat the master at his own game by producing a retaliation sungura album that cost him his career.
