The petition is a response to the escalating violence in different parts of the country, selective arrests of MDC-T political leaders and civic society leaders and the continued silence on Gukurahundi and the post March 2008 election violence despite the existence of the organ of peace. The organisation says it is deeply concerned about recent outbreaks of political violence, the hate speech as well as the increasing deployment of military personnel in some of the streets and townships of Zimbabwe. The organisation is aiming at getting as much as possible signatures on the petition. The petition has also been sent to the organizations chapters: namely Gwanda (for Mat South), Lupane (for Mat. North), Gweru (for Midlands), Masvingo and Mutare.
