ZIFA Central Region boss dejected

GWERU - The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has ordered that Platinum FC may not take part in the aborted Super 8 Tournament, leaving Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) Central Region Chairperson Patrick Hokonya a dejected man.

The tournament, which was supposed to be a pre-season competition, has now been abandoned because sponsors who had wanted Platinum FC to be part of it have pulled out. Teams which finished in the top 8 of the Central Region league last season were scheduled to lock horns during the Super 8. These included Platinum FC, which came tops and is now moving into the supreme league.

“The sponsors are into platinum mining and so they had wanted Platinum FC to be part of the tournament. When PSL communicated to us that no team could take part in a competition where teams under its level are included, they pulled outt,” Hokonya said.

He contacted ZIFA Board member for competitions, Benedict Moyo, for recourse but to no avail. Hokonya still hopes the tournament will be held – as and when another sponsor can be found.
