Gwaze wins Easter open

His toughest game of the tournament was against FIDE Master Rodwell Makoto in the seventh round of the tourney.He finished with 8,5 points out of 9 games played.He also defeated the current National Champion Dion Moyo before drawing his final round against Anyway Zhuwawu.Rodwell Makoto came second with 8 points.He won against S.Chimhungwe,Reuben Salimu,Hamilton Mandeya before winning against Anesu Masimba in the final round.Anyway Zhuwawu and Eric Takawira were on 7,5 points and were joint third.Takawira beat Spencer Masango one of the tournament favourites in the last round.On the fifth position there was a tie with Emerald Mushore,Shephered Chimhungwe,Lewis Kahoba,Dion Moyo,Elisha Chimbamu,Fungai Mudziki,Shephered Chimbwanda and Langton Mwanza.

all on 7 points.Dion Moyo drew against Spencer Masango before drawing against Emerald Mushore in the final round in a star-studded field.Rodwell Makoto played one of the most interesting games of the tournament against S,Chimhungwe sacrificing a queen for a mate.Natsai Chiwundura was the best lady of the tournament with 6 points and Tatenda Zengeni was second best with the same points.Langton Mwanza was the best scholar with 7 points and Dee Chivinda was second best with 6 points.Donald Chiwundura was the best under 14 player while 6 year old Refiloe Mudodo was the youngest player of the tournament. A record turnout of 164 players took part in the tourney.The tournament was ran by Elton Mhangarayi,Reuben Muza and Clive Mpambela.Mrs Kuwaza wife of the Zimbabwe Chess Federation Mr C.T. Kuwaza presented the prizes to the winners.Meanwhile Dion Moyo won the J.Sithale Memorial Tournament in Gaborone,Botswana beating the newly crowned FIDE Master Providence,drawing against Kokome Oaitse{CM} and FM Notha.He won it after the zone 4,3 championships with 7,5 points out of 9 games of play pocketing a cool 3000 pula for the first prize.The next Grand Prix will be held in Masvingo sometime in May date to be announced.
