The group, that is well known for the national hit Kanyama Karipi, said everything was in order for the release. The group was led by the late Stobart Chidikano who was the mastermind of the hit album Kanyama Karipi and Nyarara. The albums propelled the Assegai Crew to dizzy heights as it dominated the airwaves with its Ragga Manyika beat.
The forthcoming six track album will be the debut project since the death of Chidikano. The lead vocalist Thomas Pakurege said: “We have managed to retain the Ragga Manyika beat. We still have the touch that made the Assegai Crew a household name. We have Sailas Makumbe (drummer) an original member of the group who is guiding us.”
He added that the fans were enjoying their live shows and will soon embark on nationwide tours to market the new album.
“The fans are enjoying our shows and I want to promise them that we still have more to show. We are going to Harare for some live shows and will then visit other cities,” said Pakurege. The Assegai Crew calls its music Ragga Manyika a fusion of ragga and dancehall music laced with the Manyika language.
