The leaders praised Zuma for the firmer stance he has taken against Mugabe and his party for incessantly violating terms of the Global Political Agreement.
Last month, after years of predictable talk-shops by the Southern African Development Community (SADC), its troika met in Zambia where it finally sharpened its teeth and stood up to Mugabe, directly confronting him to end the political violence, intimidation, hate speech and political harassment.
Church leaders welcomed the decision by the troika and SADC-appointed mediator Zuma.
A Church leaders meeting in Gauteng commended President Jacob Zuma on the stronger stance that he, as the mediator in the Zimbabwe crisis, seems to have taken in the last couple of months. Meeting to discuss issues beleaguering the nation and the region, the leaders urged however, that President Zumas visibly stronger commitment to resolving the crisis in Zimbabwe be turned into concrete action in dealing with crises in the region, the leaders said in a statement.
This followed a meeting sponsored by the National Religious Association for Social Development.
Zimbabwean church leaders have previously condemned the Mugabe regime for its excesses but the Zimbabwean leader has turned a blind eye accusing the churches of being agents of neo-colonial change.
