Jani under pressure

ZVISHAVANE - Pressure is mounting on Shabanie FC gaffer Arnold Jani to rescue the Chinda boys from the bottom the log despite holding troubled Harare giants Dynamos to a goalless draw at Maglas stadium in a midweek fixture.

Matters are being worsened by town boys Platinum FC who have relieved coach Philani Mabhena of his duties due to poor performance after he led his team to a crashing defeat at the hands of Motor Action. Jani took over the technical team leadership of the Zvishavane-based outfit last month after team president Raymond Munangwa fired unimpressive coach Saul Chaminuka making him the first to be shown marching orders in the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

That was after Chaminuka had led Shabanie into two successive defeats in opening league matches against Highlanders (0-3) and Chicken Inn (0-2). Since taking over, Jani has registered only two wins out of six games, but that has not moved Shabanie from the relegation zone, the mandate his predecessor Chaminuka was fired for failing to execute.

“I know that all eyes are on me but I am doing the best to make our team register more victories and continue to be in PSL action for seasons to come,” Jani told The Zimbabwean.

The impatient club executive and supporters are all pinning their hopes on him to at least make the team move up the log to guarantee a place in the supreme league next year. “My biggest challenge is to pacify the supporters but I am confident I can do it. The team’s performance at the moment is not very bad,” he added. It is not the supporters Jani needs to worry about, but the club executive which has shown evidence of impatience before – firing Chaminuka just two weeks into the premiership competition.
