Maroto lacking game time

norman_maroto2HARARE - FC Platinum striker Norman Maroto (pictured) is lacking game time at the cash-rich club - a reason which has seen him failing to score in 10 outings.

The former Dynamos and Gunners striker, who won the Golden Boot Award last year at Gunners, has not seen much action with the premiership debutantes as he is usually warming the bench and is only introduced in the dying moments of the match.

On Wednesday, he came on in the 69th minute for Donald Ngoma in a league match against Motor Action which his team lost 2-1. Maroto is facing stiff competition from the likes of Ngoma, Raymond Sibanda and Aleck Marime.

He had been expected to be the torch-bearer of the FC Platinum attack but failed to meet expectations. He refused to talk about his relationship with assistant coach Philani Ncube, who has been the acting coach, only insisting he will come right. “You have to get permission from the coach to speak to me. All I can say is that I will come right. It happens in football,” he said.

Maroto, who scored an incredible 22 league goals last term, joined debutantes FC Platinum in the off-season alongside other stars including Soccer Star of the Year Charles Sibanda, Joel Ngodzo, Bekimpilo Ncube and Benjamin Marere.

But the spotlight was always going to fall on him after he left the domestic football family spellbound with his goal scoring instincts last season that earned him the Golden Boot Award.
