Rusike, Karuru to spice up Young Warriors squad

tafadzwa_rusikeHARARE - The Young Warriors technical department has bolstered the squad by calling up foreign-based players including the Ajax Cape Town duo of Tafadzwa "Fire" Rusike (Pictured) and Khama Billiart for the crunch first leg tie of the 2011 Maputo All Africa Games against South Africa's Amaglug-glug ne

Also called up for the crucial tie in Harare on June 24-26 are France-based Ovidy Karuru and Kaizer Chiefs sensation Knowledge Musona. The team is scheduled to go into camp on June 13. Young Warriors manager Wellington Mpandare said they had called up the four foreign based players to take advantage of the summer break.

“We have always wanted to call up all these players but as you are aware this tournament is not on the FIFA calendar so it is difficult for the players to be released by their respective clubs. Now that they are on a summer break we want to take advantage and I have already written to their respective clubs informing them that we want the players. But the clubs have not responded even though their season has just ended. But they cannot stop us from using the players because they will all be here by this weekend,’ said Mpandare.

Zimbabwe, who missed the services of star players Denver Mukamba and Archieford Gutu in the qualifier against Botswana in Harare, made light work of the Young Zebras, running out 6-3 aggregate winners to set a date with South Africa. The Young Warriors had drawn 2-2 in Gaborone before posting a 4-1 win in Harare. The All Africa Games will be staged in Mozambique from September 3-18, with one country qualifying from each of the seven zones.
