ZIMRA to introduce mobile taxation

HARARE - The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority is conducting a pilot project with the banking community in Zimbabwe in order to introduce mobile (SMS) taxing mechanisms for traders who cross the country's borders.

Allan Saruchera, ZIMRA Head of IT services, told the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce ICT symposium in Harare that the authority has plans to introduce mobile taxing through SMS messages so that traders and other travellers can be taxed in the comfort of their offices.

He added that the initiative, still at pilot stage, would help to ease congestion at the country’s border posts and facilitate quick clearance of goods.

He added that a technical committee comprising relevant stakeholders from retail, business, government and the banking sector had been set up to achieve the intended initiative.
