ZWRCN wins ZITF awards

BULAWAYO - The Zimbabwe Womens Resource Centre and Network won several awards at the recent Zimbabwe International Trade Fair.

The centre made its first appearance in partnership with the Ministry of Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development (MWAGCD).

ZWRCN gave support in kind to the Ministry of Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development which scooped two gold medals one silver and two bronze in the Best Zimbabwean Craft Demonstrator, Best Zimbabwean Cotton Textile Exhibit, Non Industrial Exhibitor, and the Supreme Zimbabwean Exhibit categories respectively.

ZWRCN supported the ministrys theme: Committed to Womens Empowerment Now and Beyond through the provision of promotional materials, and cooperated to disseminate information on gender and development to the public during the fair.

Speaking at a function held to celebrate the awards in Bulawayo, Executive Director, Naome Chimbetete said, We congratulate the ministry not only for these awards, but more importantly for spearheading womens empowerment and gender equity in Zimbabwe.

She said ZWRCN has had an excellent working partnership with the ministry in advancing womens rights, mainly through the ongoing Gender Budgeting Programme and that the Ministry has made huge strides in mainstreaming gender issues in Government processes.

In a letter written to ZWRCN, the Secretary for Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development, Dr. Sylvia Utete-Masango said, The Ministry registers its sincere thanks to ZWRCN for the support rendered over the years to facilitate the implementation of projects and programmes that benefit women and communities in Zimbabwe.
