Gwaze wins Masvingo Grand Prix

International master Robert Gwaze won the just ended Masvingo Open. He won it with 6,6 points out of 7 games of play. He drew his final game with Elisha Thabo in the final round to claim his second Grand Prix this year.

Onsecond position was Spencer Masango who had 6 points from 7 games of play. There was a tie-break on the third position with Elisha Thabo,Gift Sithole,Chimeri and Lloyd Moyo all were on 5,5 points. On the7th position there was another tie, Bismarck Bhobhojani,Farirai Gumbe,and Shepherd Chimhungwe all had 5 points out of the 7 games of play.The tournament had a total of sixty players who took part.

It was organised by The Zimbabwe Chess Federation and Celestine Verenga formerly of Gokomere ensured that the tourney was played at a venue he organised. Special prizes of the tourney weer also there. The youngest player of the tournament was Kudakwashe Zimbowa of Zengeza Primary School. The young boy has a lot of potential. The best under 14 player was Pride Chipuriro and Seith Chimeri was the best local player with 5,5 points. The best lady prize went to Sinikiwe Sibanda who scored 5 points while the second best was Samantha Chigayo who had 3 points.

Meanwhile 2 Zimbabweans are doing us Proud in Mozambique and these are FIDE Master Rodwell MAKOTO and Dion MOYO in the Africa Individuals a tourney which was won by Gwaze in 2007 when he qualified for the world cup.All the Best. They beat the Algerians and are due to play the EGYPTIANS.
