Hearty welcome for Rahman Gumbo

rahman_gumboZVISHAVANE - FC Platinum fans here have overwhelmingly welcomed new coach Rahman Gumbo (Pictured) who takes over from caretaker Patrick Mandizha.

Gumbo is one of the countrys most decorated coaches, commanding respect even in regional nations. In 2006 he won the championship in Malawi while coaching MTL Wanderers. Last season he won the B-Mobile League Championship with Township Rollers in Botswana before joining Mochudu Centre Chiefs.
Having led the warriors in the past, Gumbo helped Bulawayo side Highlanders win the local Premiership Soccer League (PSL) in a series during the height of his career in his home country. FC Platinum chair, Thadson Zhou, revealed that Rahman Gumbo started work at the club on Wednesday. He will be assisted by Tendai Chikuni, Philani Mabhena and Peter Nkomo who will be the goalkeepers coach.
In a snap survey carried by The Zimbabwean in Zvishavane, the home town of FC Platinum, it was noted that fans are fully behind the employment of Gumbo. He is a good coach and has everything that it takes to make us a happy lot come the end of the season, said Clarkson Muza of Mandava suburb. The management of our FC Platinum should give Rahman time so that he settles and reassembles the team. They should not expect miracles overnight, Lizzy Mugovera , another fan, added.
Other fans suggested that immediate past caretaker Mandizha should be made to understudy operations at the team so that he eventually takes over. Mandizha was not bad. He should just be groomed. He is a townsman and will do his best if offered a chance as head coach in the future, one fan said. Gumbo only needs four points to pip Motor Action and assume leadership on the PSL log and has a host of talented players in his camp to do so.
These include, Tafadzwa Dube, Norman Maroto, Daniel Vheremu, Zephaniah Ngodzo, Joel Ngodzo, Benjamin Marere, Charles Sibanda, Beki Nyoni, Menard Mupera, Francis Kanda, Norman Togara and Simon Njeleza. They are the players who have dominated the squad since premiership action started.
