Top ICT Conference set for October

laptopBut no laptops or phones please!
HARARE A top Information and Communication Technology Conference is set to be held in Harare in October, Atwell Mukusha, President of the Computer Society of Zimbabwe has revealed.

Mukusha warned, however, that this was a very “serious affair” and participants should not bring their second-hand items and embarrass the association as happened last year.
“Let us showcase real software and not laptops and mobile cellular phones,” said Mukusha.
“This is a serious event and we must showcase what we are doing and not just bring along laptops and phones like what happened last year when we held our ICT display.
Mukusha then took a swipe at the local media, saying they were not doing their job “professionally” and were allowing information to be distorted because they did not write articles that could be used as a reliable record for the country – especially for the ICT industry
“There are statistics from the World Economic Forum that are wrong but you journalists do not correct them – and then the country is downgraded using wrong information,” he said.
“You must write correct information about Zimbabwe so that when we ‘Google’ the internet we can get the correct information about the ICT sector in Zimbabwe and why we are being down-graded.”
“You journalists must be able to defend our statistics from such organisations as the WEF. At CSZ we are busy trying to defend our country and the fact that some of the figures are wrong. When you ‘Google’ the internet there is no information about the ICT industry in Zimbabwe and this is not true because we do have a vibrant industry. In fact, we have a 92 percent literacy rate and that speaks volumes about Zimbabwe.”
