Young Warriors pressure Kaizer Chiefs to release Musona

musonaHARARE - The Young Warriors technical department is still hopeful of getting their best man, Knowledge Musona (Pictured), for the first leg of the 2011 All-Africa Games qualifier against South Africa in Harare later this month.

Kaizer Chiefs have thus far refused to release him – even though they are off-season. The club has insisted that they want the player for medicals during the same weekend (24-26 June) that the Young Warriors will play South Africa in the crucial qualifier.
The second leg will be played in South Africa two weeks later. “We still have a challenge on Musona. It’s surprising. This is
off-season but they insist they want the player for medicals the same weekend we are playing. We are still hopeful to get him available for the match. We are trying to persuade them to release the player. The problem is that this match is not on the Fifa calendar and clubs are not forced to release players. However, we thought since they are of-season, there won’t be any problem. We are in a very difficult situation because we need him for this match. We will continue talking to them and hopefully we will win. As for the other players we have called up there are no challenges so far,” said Young Warriors team manager Wellington Mupandare.
Some of the foreign-based stars called up for this tie include the Cape Town duo Tafadzwa “Fire” Rusike and Khama Billiart both formerly with CAPS United. France-based Ovidy Karuru has also been called up to spice up the squad. The Young Warriors are scheduled to go into camp on June 13.
Zimbabwe made light work of the Young Zebras of Botswana, running out 6-3 aggregate winners to set a date with South Africa. The Young Warriors had drawn 2-2 in Gaborone before posting a 4-1 win in Harare.
The All Africa Games will be staged in Mozambique from September 3-18, with one country qualifying from each of the seven zones that the teams have been thrown in.
