Is age a problem?

Dear Gracey

I am an Advanced level student aged 17 and there is a lady in my suburb who is so much into me. She is pretty and seems a very nice person. I have no doubt she will accept my proposal for a date if I am to ask her because it is written all over her actions that she is dying for me. The girl is six years older than me. Is it something to worry about when we both like each other? – Cute-Teen

Dear Cute-Teen

It is true what they say, age is nothing but a number. Love is all that matters, right! But there is something to consider in your case despite the fact that you both like each other. You are in school and you do not need anything to distract you from your studies, especially a mature girl whose needs you may find you having to compromise much on school work and pleasure.

You need all your focus on your schoolwork right now to make sure that you pass your studies. Of course you are old enough to handle a girlfriend, but I will advise someone the same age with you or younger – who is also at the stage where studies are important.

Your ideal girlfriend should be someone on the same level of thinking with you who will help you get your mind focused on schoolwork and not give you unnecessary pressure.

Otherwise education should be your one and only love at this stage. – Gracey
