NGO’s install 131 borehole pumps

Villagers here, who were facing serious water problems, will now have access to clean water following the installation of 131 borehole pumps by two Non Governmental Organisations.

Oxfam and Integrated Sustainable Livelihoods recently completed the boreholes, which were drilled some years ago but had no pumps.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony Chiutsa primary school in Mudzengerere, Oxfam Director, Peter Mutoredzanwa, said initially they were targeting to rehabilitate 112 boreholes but were encouraged to go extra mile after they were encouraged by the commitment and support from the villagers.

“We were targeting to repair 112 boreholes but we were encouraged by the support we received from villagers and managed to repair extra 11 boreholes for the community,” said Mutoredzanwa.

Sustainable Livelihoods Programmes Coordinator, Life Methin, said they had also managed to train pump minders, builders, health facilitators and sanitation teachers drawn from various local primary school schools.

The NGOs also donated repair kits for the boreholes to the delighted villagers.
