The policy aims to promote the sustainability of tourism operations, curb leakages in the sector and promote investment.
It will clearly articulate the government’s vision for the sector, define objectives for tourism development and guide the preservation of Zimbabwe’s environmental and cultural resources.
Last month, the ministry embarked on information gathering seminars countrywide in a bid to consult stakeholders.
Assistant director for international tourism in the Ministry, Douglas Mavhembu, said the committee had gathered all the necessary information for the drafting of the policy.
“There is likely to be a national Indaba in August or September where we will be presenting a draft of consolidated information. We will then come up with a draft that will be presented in parliament,” he said.
“We feel that the draft has encapsulated all the information that was contributed by all the stakeholders so that the policy is very relevant to the people and the tourism sector in particular,” Mavhembu said.
