War vets seek cleansing

Hundreds of war veterans from across Mashonaland East Province are converging at Nhowe Mountains for spiritual guidance from Sengedze traditional leadership ahead of the upcoming elections.

The predominately Zanu (PF) fighters of the armed liberation struggle believe that without spiritual guidance, there is no way they can mobilise sufficient support for President Robert Mugabe to win elections.

“The Sengedze family from Muturikwa clan wields such spiritual powers and will communicate with influential ancestors of the Svosve area, for Mugabe and Zanu (PF) to win any future election,” said one veteran.

He explained that ritualistic exercises would be conducted throughout the country’s provinces.

Villagers expressed their suspicion of the exercise. “Nothing good has ever come out of either Zanu (PF) or war veterans’ gatherings. How could any right thinking person agree that the meeting being held in the mountains would be in good faith?” said a villager.
