Gunners were struggling in the murky waters of relegation before the arrival of Chunga and were tipped as one of the four teams to be relegated at the end of the season. They were at the foot of the league table on second position from the bottom before the arrival of Bambo from CAPS United.
But the nomadic Chunga, who is regarded as a specialist in saving teams from relegation, has turned things around at the 2009 league champions.
But he remains modest even in his moment of triumph. "People are saying we have a chance to win the league title but we are not talking about the championship. We are not worried about that and are just playing our normal game.
All we want is to continue with this kind of performance right to the end. I don't know whether we will talk about the championship. We are just playing our normal game," says Chunga.
Bambo, as he is affectionately known in football circles, came face-to-face with the fans who haunted him out of CAPS United in his first game in charge of Gunners at Lafarge in Mabvuku. His team held United to a 0-0 draw in what has been regarded as their best performance this season.
In the reverse fixture they beat CAPS United 2-0 in a match that was abandoned due to crowd trouble. Gunners were awarded the match on a 3-0 score line by the Premier Soccer League disciplinary committee.
They are still unbeaten since Chunga took over and at the weekend made a bold statement of intent when they beat Shabanie Mine 2-1 to haul themselves back into contention for the ultimate prize in domestic football. They now have 26 points from 20 games.
