CAPS United management wielded the axe on their coach Maxwell Takaendesa Jongwe this week after five matches in charge without a win.
Jongwe drew his first match in charge against Gunners, with Chunga in the opposite dug-out, before losing the next match to the same opponents. Further defeats to Dynamos, Monomotapa and Masvingo United last Sunday sealed his fate.
The club immediately appointed Lloyd Chitembwe as his interim replacement – their third coach in just over a month after earlier getting rid of Moses Chunga.
And Chitembwe told The Zimbabwean this week he was happy to bounce back into the game after a year on sabbatical.
"I have been watching developments in Zimbabwean football since I left CAPS United last year and I am happy to be given another chance to coach this great team. It's a challenge but I like challenges. They drive me. The coaches who were there before worked hard but unfortunately results were not coming.
I hope this time around luck will be on my side. My aim is to make sure the team finishes among the top four teams. I can not talk of the championship at this stage of the campaign but we can talk about finishing in a respectable position,” said Chitembwe.
CAPS United are languishing in 11th position on the league table with a paltry 22 points from 19 games.
Chitembwe, a club legend as a player, has coached United before. He was dismissed in August 2010 after CAPS United fans rioted following a 2-2 draw with Kiglon at Rufaro.
Chunga, named as Chitembwe's replacement, would suffer the same fate at the hands of United fans before he was moved on.
