“As the area responsible authority, Mutoko Rural District Council should benefit from the mining done here. This revenue would empower the council to embark on tangible developmental projects and deliver services,” she said.
Section 146 of the Indigenization and Economic Empowerment ACT, demands that communities share ownership in such commercial projects in their locality.
Mutoko district council is struggling to develop infrastructure such as roads, schools, clinics, dip tanks and others due to lack of resources.
Some of the private companies that are exploiting the profitable black granite are Natural Stone Export Company, CRG, Manwick, Quarrying Enterprises and Keely.
