Minister Mukonoweshuro dies in SA

Zimbabwe’s Public Service Minister and senior member of the MDC-T Eliphas Mukonoweshuro has died. He was 58.

The MDC's spokesperson, Douglas Mwonzora said Mukonoweshuro died Friday morning at a hospital in South Africa where he had gone for treatment. The MDC-T official could not give any further details about the ailment he was suffering from.

“He died this morning. He wasn’t feeling well and went to South Africa for an operation sometime. We are still getting the details,” said Douglas Mwonzora, the MDC-T spokesperson.

Born on June 22, 1953 in Gutu, Professor Mukonoweshuro attended Shumba and Rafomoyo Primary Schools before progressing to Zimuto Secondary and Tegwani High Schools.

He was a holder of a PhD from the University of Birmingham, England. He also attended a proficiency course on Diplomatic Practice and Procedure.

Professor Mukonoweshuro was one of the founding members of the Movement for Democratic Change and was very influential to the party’s launch in 1999. He was also Tsvangirai’s personal advisor.

He is a senior member of the Movement for Democratic Change and National Executive Member. He also holds the position of Secretary for International Affairs.

He was a Professor of International Relations, specializing in international relations, local government, education, and international trade at the University of Zimbabwe until his time of death.

Professor Mukonoweshuro was elected to the House of Assembly in 2008 as an MP for Gutu South and was subsequently appointed Minister of The public service.
