Villagers in Gotora village are living in fear following the re-emergence of a terror gang that led horror campaigns in the area during the run-up to 2008 Presidential elections.
According to villagers the gang comprises of six members of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) and two war veterans identified as David Mashu and James Mharadze. The group is led by Col Mzilikazi and they have established a terror base at Gotora Primary School.
The frightened villagers last week said the group led a brutal crackdown during the 2008 Presidential election where they terrorised MDC-T supporters. The villagers also said the group was still using the same vehicle, a Mitsubishi L200 truck.
“They are back again. We are braced for some tough moments. The soldiers have begun moving around the areas telling the people to vote for President Mugabe and Zanu (PF). We cannot live that life again,” said a visibly terrified villager.
“Last week the soldiers were moving-door-to-door telling us to vote for Zanu (PF) in the forthcoming elections. They told us that those who would vote for MDC-T would be known and they would be killed,” said one villager.
Zanu (PF) has been employing force and victimization in rural areas in order to win back supporters. The MDC office in Mutare confirmed intimidation of their supporters in Buhera.
