I am a man aged 27. I love my girlfriend so much and I do not have enough money to marry her now. The problem is that my church does not allow us to elope; something I thought was the only way I can stay with her. I don’t know what else to do to for us to be together. Please help. – In love
Dear In love
I understand how you really want to marry your girlfriend and spend the rest of your lives together – but you cannot run away from paying lobola when you are a black Zimbabwean man. That is our culture.
Whatever you do for a living you need to try and raise the money to give to your in-laws to show appreciation to them for raising you a wife-to-be. It may seem a big mountain to climb when you are not earning much, but we are all bound to work hard for everything we desire in our lives.
You will start your own family together with her when you get married and challenges will always present themselves along the way. Financial challenges will be chief among them and you need to stand up like a man and work hard to show your wife that she can depend on you – and most of all she did not make a mistake by making you her husband.
Always remember, it is not only rich men who marry. No man is meant to be born and die alone; you also deserve to spend the rest of your life with your Mrs. Right. Continue working hard and know that you can achieve big things starting with a small saving. – Gracey
